Observations

While some brands had not yet launched their Christmas campaign (I couldn’t find one from a brand as seasonal as Freixenet…), others were already running at full speed. We went from Black Friday / Cyber Monday to Christmas with barely a pause.

My key takeaways:

  1. The main messages are:
    1. These are unusual Christmas times, but better days are coming. Celebrate from a distance, before better times ahead.
    2. Don’t worry, we have the perfect gift for you.
  2. It is possible to run a campaign with a “We Will Resist” theme…
  3. Use #hashtags in your campaigns.
  4. Add a link in your ad copy.
  5. Great moment to promote gift cards.
  6. Santa Claus barely appears in the creatives (understandably, if you have (https://www.google.com/search?safe=active&sxsrf=ALeKk02-8uuPkmlFtNFJUeLtC_3mwEu8hA:1607683575285&q=chris+hemsworth&spell=1&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiW3amD4MXtAhU0RRUIHe-wA04QkeECKAB6BAgIEDU) like TagHeuer does, there’s no need…).
  7. The main emojis used are: ? ? ✨
  8. Some brands run very localised campaigns, using Catalan or Valencian.
